New Car: 2011 Land Rover LR2

Now that the rest of the Land Rover lineup has received visual and mechanical updates for 2010, the LR2 sees a few visual enhancements for 2011 that will at least bring its styling more in line with the rest of the family. A fresh front bumper with revised fog-light surrounds and the new two-bar grille strengthen the stylistic connection between the LR2 and the larger LR4. Other exterior modifications include new taillights, new wheels, and additional body-colored parts like the mirror caps, door handles, and rear bumper.

It’s also worth our noting—because it would otherwise probably go unnoticed—that the LR2 is debuting the new Land Rover logo. Wishing to be a bit more contemporary, the company has done away with the classic gold-over-green logo, favoring bright silver over green for its new badge. Not a hugely dramatic change, but a small evolution nonetheless.

Inside, the changes are limited to new trim and seat appointments, and a revised instrument cluster.

While the LR2 is actually quite capable off-road, our biggest complaint has always been with the thirsty yet still underpowered 230-hp, 3.2-liter inline-6. Sadly, Land Rover has left the engine unchanged during the freshening, but hopefully the new Evoque will bring a better powerplant to share with the LR2. The 2011 LR2 goes on sale this fall.

Nissan Will Build Condominium for Nissan Leaf

Nissan continues to make electric vehicle partnerships around the world with the launch of the Nissan LEAF looming – and now it has established a new relationship on home turf.

Nissan has joined forces with Daikyo Incorporated, one of the largest condominium builders in the country. The two have signed a memorandum of understanding which will involve the launch of a demonstration project for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in condominium buildings.

Together, they will review and suggest approaches for installing chargers and Nissan will provide electric vehicles and chargers on a test basis to condominium owners for a trial period in an effort to identify any issues and potential solutions.

Nissan and Daikyo have also issued an invitation for condominium association boards in Yokohama City and Kanagawa Prefecture to apply for the programme.

Daikyo now hopes to install charging infrastructure in around 10 per cent of the parking in each of the buildings in its Lion Mansion Series that are scheduled for construction after April this year.

2011 mazda 3

Available in a four-door model and a five-door hatch, the 2010 Mazda 3 comes in a narrower range of colors than previous models. It has a three year/36, 000 mile warranty with a transferable powertrain warranty for five years/60, 000 miles.
The 2010 Mazda 3 is powered by either the base 2. 0 liter engine, with 148 horsepower and 135 pound/foot of torque, or a new 2. 5 liter engine with 167 horsepower and 168 pound/foot of torque. It features a new six speed manual transmission or the five speed automatic which has a manual shift mode. Fuel economy is expected to at least match the previous model of around 22/30 mpg.
Those who have rated the Mazda 3 on performance claim that the enhancements to the body seem to work well with the mechanics of the car. The steering is direct and responsive, the braking is sharp, the suspension is fine tuned and the engine has enough power to drive the weight of the vehicle with ease. Some claim that the new model drives better than the already good previous model. None of the 3′s reputation for aggressive performance has been lost in the redesign.
Safety is an important consideration these days, and again the Mazda 3 comes up trumps, scoring 5 stars for front end collisions for both driver and passenger, and on side impacts, 5 stars for driver and 4 stars for passenger. It received a 4 star roll-over rating. This has been achieved with two front and side air bags and side curtain air bags. It features an anti-lock braking system and brake assist as standard.

Mercedes-Benz AMG has announced the new 2011 S 63 AMG will come with the performance division's latest 5.5 liter biturbo V8 engine.That power plant has an output of 537 bhp (400 kW / 544 PS) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. With the AMG Performance Package, that gets tuned up to 563 bhp (420 kW / 571 PS) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). The new S 63 AMG couples both those iterations to the 7-speed Speedshift MCT transmission. Mercedes-Benz is living up to its promise of recent years to greatly improve fuel-economy on all its vehicles without any compromise in performance. With the addition of a stop/start system, fuel-economy on the S 63 AMG comes in at 10.5 liters/100 km in the European cycle, and the engine represents a 25 percent increase in fuel-efficiency over the model's previous 6.3 liter V8 unit while boosting overall power as well.

The S 63 AMG hits the 100 km/h mark in just 4.5 seconds - 4.4 with the performance package. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) on the standard model but is bumped up to 300 km/h (186 mph) when buyers opt for the package.Tech goodies include Active Lane Keeping and Blind Spot Assistance. The sport suspension has such features as Active Body Control for crosswind stabilization. Torque Vector braking keeps things tight in the corners as well and the Direct Steer system also helps with handling and response in the curves.
The car comes standard with 19-inch triple-spoke light-alloy AMG wheels in titanium gray.

Prices start at €143,752 for the short wheelbase version, €151,368 for the stretched variant.


AMG today unveiled another chapter in its “AMG Performance 2015″ with the newly produced 5.5L V8 biturbo engine that will enter the lineup in summer 2010. The new engine will make its debut in the upcoming S 63 AMG.AMG says that the new 5.5L V8 biturbo engine makes between 544-hp to 571-hp with a maximum torque of 590 lb-ft to 664 lb-ft. In the new S 63 AMG with the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission the 5.5L V8 biturbo engine will help return a fuel-economy of 22 mpg, an improvement of 25 percent when compared to the current S 63 AMG.
