Geely IG to undercut the NANO

Remember the chinese maker GEELY,which was in the news recently for acquiring VOLVO from Ford? The same company has again been in the limelight for its development of an all new lost cost car for emerging markets,the GEELY IG.To be priced at just US$ 2250 when launched in the chinese market in 2012,the IG will undercut even the TATA NANO by at least 20-30 percent.The IG will later be launched in several other markets with India being on top of the priority list.
The two door 4 seater will be based on the IG show car that was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year.It wil be powered by a 1.0 litre 70ps engine with 5 speed gear box. Officials quoted that the IG will be built to a higher quality than the NANO.GEELY is also studying the feasibility of coming up with an electric version,due for launch somewhere in 2015.Will GEELY actually pull this off?Our fingers are crossed.

New Volkswagen Vento to be launched in India

Volkswagen, one of the world's largest Car manufacturers have made their presence in the Indian market with the introduction of Volkswagen Polo and they are aiming much bigger things by setting to introduce more number of products within a few years into this market. As a result of this, Volkswagen are now all set to launch their sixth model, Volkswagen Vento.

Volkswagen Vento is a premium entry-level sedan which will be the German automaker's first locally manufactured sedan and this local manufacturing of Vento will help them to be competitive in after-sales service. According to them, the mid-size sedan category is a fast growing segment and, therefore, it is extremely important for Volkswagen to get the cost structure right.

Priced at over Rs 9 lakh, this sedan is powered by a 1.6-litre engine, and also would be available in both petrol and diesel variants. Vento would be manufactured at Volkswagen's Chakan plant, while the company's other sedans are assembled at its Aurangabad facility. This sedan model is now all set to compete mainly with the likes of Honda City.

Volkswagen Beetle to be Launched Soon in India

Volkswagen is all set to roll out the Volkswagen Beetle on the Indian roads, in the beginning of December this year. As per information provided by a senior company official, Volkswagen Beetle was meant to be a People’s car, but its very high prices fail to live up to that. Volkswagen would import the Beetle as ‘Completely Built Unit (CBU)’ with a 110 per cent import duty from its Mexican plant, for sale in Indian markets.

Volkswagen is Europe’s largest carmaker which already sells the Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat sedans and the Touareg SUV in India. The Volkswagen owns Skoda and Porsche vehicles which have already done good sales in India.
The Volkswagen Beetle is amongst the most successful models ever produced by the German carmaker. According to the critics, the car is a complete failure due to its peculiar styling, underpowered motor, rough ride and noisy engine. Despite these claims, the car has bucked all trends and made history.
The company as a whole is also expanding in India, by increasing its target. The group earlier announced a target of 8-10 per cent share of the Indian passenger car market in the next 6 years. New Maruti SX4 Automatic Launched

Maruti India has also introduced a 4-speed automatic transmission variant of the new Maruti SX4.
The new SX4 comes with a brand-new sporty honeycomb grille and 10-spoke 16 inch alloy wheels and dual tones interiors and plush upholstery.
The VVT or Variable Valve Timing allows the timing of the intake valve to be changed while the engine is in operation, thereby ensuring that there is never a shortage or wastage of power. This leads to improved engine efficiency, optimized fuel consumption and lesser carbon emissions. With the advanced VVT technology, the car starts, accelerates and climbs steep slopes better. In essence, the technology is an intelligent system leading to a smoother, more luxurious drive and better mileage.

With a more efficient engine, the new Maruti SX4 has ARAI certified mileage of 15.6 km per litre of petrol. The superior technology engine helps the SX4’s four-valve, 1.6 litre engine produce a maximum power of 104.68ps @5600 rpm. The engine also has a high torque of 145Nm @4100 rpm.

The interiors have been stylized in new two-tone beige colours to define calmness and luxury within the vehicle. The steering mounted controls are illuminated for easier usage at night, while there is a new provision of USB connectivity on the dashboard.
In addition auto climate control system, and windshield antenna, the new Maruti SX4 sedan also offers illuminated key insert and variable instrument illumination.
The new Maruti SX4 is available in 2 transmission - Manual and Automatic. While Manual Transmission has two variants VXi and ZXi, the Automatic Transmission is available in ZXi variant with optional leather upholstery. The ZXi variant also comes with safety features like ABS, EDB, Dual SRS airbags.

The Maruti SX4 sedan is the tallest, widest car in its class. It also has the largest fuel tank capacity at 50 litres. It comes with the widest tyres and a boot space of 505 liters. The ground clearance of the new SX4 sedan is 190mm, the highest in the A3 segment.

Chevrolet Spark Electra to Hit Indian Roads Soon

General Motors India’s small car Chevrolet Spark will soon be launched in the electric version on Indian roads. Chevrolet India has forayed into a technology tie-up with Reva Electric Car Company. The main aim is to produce green cars and the Bangalore based Reva is set to assist in the endeavor.

At its Halol (Gujarat) and Talegaon (Maharashtra) manufacturing plants, Chevrolet India plans to export 20 per cent of the production starting 2011. The two facilities have a capacity of 225,000 units a year. The company is also setting up a new line with a 160,000-unit per year capacity at Talegaon in order to manufacture petrol and diesel engines, which will go on stream towards the end of next year.

Cars from Reva never became hugely popular in India due to the high prices and the fact that the initial version of the car suffered from low build quality. Government subsidies were non existent and the car suffered from limited range and it was powered by the lead acid battery. But the newer versions namely NXR and NXG will change the perception as the car will escalate to improved battery technology.

The technology tie-up between General Motors and Reva is certainly going to yield positive results as the product is slated to be India’s first real electric car.

Swift with a plugin hybrid

Suzuki is unveiling a Swift with a Plug-In hybrid and a Suzuki SX4-FCW hydrogen drive under the slogan: “Small Cars for a Big Future” at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The Swift Plug-In is designed for short city trips with a petrol-driven generator in addition loading the battery of the electric engine. The battery can also be connected to an electric household socket that gives the car a range of 20 km on one charge.

Suzuki is also showcasing the SX4-FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) with a fuel cell unit designed by General Motors. The high-pressure hydrogen fuel tank has been designed by the Japanese manufacturer with additional energy coming from brake regeneration.

Suzuki is currently carrying out field tests with the SX4 for possible serial production.

Volkswagen Polo coming to India in Early 2010

After launching the Jettas, the Passats and the Touaregs; the first VW hatchback will hit the Indian roads. The Polo is a premium hatchback that will be manufactured from the recently inaugurated Volkswagen plant in Chakan,Maharashtra.
Currently the Skoda Fabia is being manufactured at the Chakan plant, so it could be possible that the Polo could have a share a similar platform with the Fabia.

The VW Polo is expected to be equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.2 litre TDI engine and the 1.2-litre and 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine.
Competitors:
The Polo will compete with the Hyundai i10, i20; Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ritz; Honda Jazz; Skoda Fabia; Fiat Grande Punto; Chevrolet Aveo UV-A. With the current market dominated by Swift, the Polo could be the change people are looking for, if VW is available to promise a good service network across the country.

New GM Daewoo Matiz launched

New Hyundai Santro prices,features and specifications India

The Korean automaker has a huge following and now Hyundai India sends word that they have revealed the new Santro that features better exterior features as well as luxurious interiors.new version features the 1.1 eRLX Epsilon engine which offers a maximum torque of 9.8 kgm@3000rpm and 63PS@5500rpm as maximum power. According to the automaker, the car not only has durability and power-efficiency but also a proven fuel-economy. It will also have a full wheel cover and a body colored radiator grille.



At the back of the car, they have added a rear spoiler. As for the interiors, the new Santro features premium stylish new fabric in dual tone beige and brown that has silver touches at multiple locations. The Korean car maker feels that this will improve the visual appeal. They have also included a rear parcel tray that will offer storage for utility items.

The new Hyundai Santro will come in colors such as Sparkle Blue, Dark Grey, Electric Red, Berry Red, Crystal White, Silky Beige, Black Diamond and Sleek Silver. The non-AC version of the car has been priced at Rs. 263,999 while the GL and GLS models cost Rs. 328,801 and Rs. 348,800. As for the LPG variants of GL and GLS, they will cost Rs. 349,521 and Rs. 369,499 respectively. The prices mentioned are ex-showroom Delhi.

All new Toyota Camry launched in India

Toyota, the world's largest car maker, on Friday launched the 'New Camry' - a new variant of the luxury sedan Camry in India. According to the makers, Toyota Camry has already defined the concept of a premium car in India and the New Camry will offer an exclusive blend of modern styling and luxurious features.

The major features of this new Toyota Camry include plasmacluster A/C with minus ion generator, intelligent rain sensing wipers and moon roof. The launch was seen as Toyota's attempt to revitalise sales of this model in the face of tough competition from rival Skoda Auto. The sales of the existing Camry (the earlier version) declined by more than 75 per cent in the April-June quarter, selling only 44 units compared with 182 units a year ago.

The New Camry is priced in the range of Rs 21.26-23.40 lakh and would be available in four grades. Other speciality of this new Toyota Camry is that it is available in dark green mica metallic and beige mica metallic.

Hyundai i20's new diesel variant launched

Hyundai i20 is Hyundai Motor India's one of the prestigious models in the premium compact car segment. Hyundai have launched a new diesel version of the i20 with a 1.4 litre engine. It costs Rs 6.19 lakh for the base model and Rs 7.20 lakh for the top end variant. Hyundai has also introduced an automatic version of i20 in the petrol variant, with the base model priced at Rs 7.31 lakh.

With the introduction of this new diesel variant, Hyundai Motors are planning to compete with other diesel engine cars like Maruti's Swift & Ritz, Honda's Jazz and Fiat's Grande Punto. So far, there wasn't any diesel plants in India for Hyundai and they were importing diesel engines that itself costs about 25 per cent of the total cost of the car.

Now Hyundai Motor India is expecting to start a new diesel plant in India near Chennai by the end of next year.The company's strategy to set up a diesel engine plant and localise parts will help lower costs as it intends to increase the sale of its diesel models.

Rinspeed Squba,the new submarine car

The sQuba is a zero emisssion all electric vehicle which uses three electric motors, one for land travel and two for water. It drives on land powered by its electric rear-wheel drive powertrain, utilizing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Upon entering water, it floats on the surface until the operator floods the interior to submerge it. It can be submerged to a depth of 10 metres (33 ft), powered by twin electric-powered propellers supplemented by two Seabob water jets. It "flies" when underwater, like a submarine, as it is not designed to drive along the surface at the bottom of the water. The car's top land speed is 120 km/h (75 mph). On the surface of water, the top speed is 6 km/h (3.2 kn; 3.7 mph) and underwater it is 3 km/h (1.6 kn; 1.9 mph).
The vehicle can transport a driver and passenger in its open cockpit. The open cockpit design is intended to allow the occupants to escape easily in case of emergency. When underwater, the occupants breathe air carried in the vehicle through -style driving regulators . Without occupants, the sQuba will surface automatically.The twin water jets mounted on rotating louvers at the front of the vehicle provide steering and lift while it is underwater and the propellers at the rear provide forward movement.
The vehicle's interior is water and salt resistant so that it can be driven in the ocean.The sQuba also comes equipped with a laser sensor system made by autonomous criuse control manufacturer Ibeo to allow autonomous operation.
The production cost of sQuba is more than US$ 1.5 million

New Skoda Laura reviews,specifications,prices and stills

Skoda’s new Laura is here in India. For the czech automaker, this is the second launch in 2009. Skoda has already launched all new superb months back. The new laura gets a facelift a exterior and interiors. Rectangular headlamps will pave way for the more stylish and wraparound headlamps. The grille and the front bumper to give the laura a more modern look. The interiors gets a new four spoke steering wheel, a new dashboard and new instrument cluster, Under the bonnet of the new laura, proven 1.9L TDi engine will remain.
Update:The new laura also comes with a 1.8L TSI petrol engine. This engine also powers the recently skoda superb.
The new laura comes in 3 engines & 6 variants; 1.8 TSI Ambiente Manual Transmission, 1.9 TDI PD Ambiente & Elegance in Manual & Automatic Transmission, and 2.0 TDI PD L&K in Automatic Transmission. While the 1.8L petrol engine pumps out 160bhp between 4500-6200 rpm and 250Nm between 1500 to 4500 rpm, the 1.9L diesel produces 105bhp at 4000rpm and 250Nm at 1900rpm. For the rubber burners, Skoda offer 2.0L PD diesel which churns out 140bhp at 4000rpm and 320 Nm of peak torque at 1750rpm.ŠkodaAuto India announces new dealership in Nagpur.

To mention more about its interior , various features like rich leather upholstery, dual zone climatronic air-conditioning, 4-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, automated sun roof sliders, unique storage compartment along with illuminated, refrigerated glove compartment are present in this car. New Chevrolet Spark LPG version launched in India

It is to be noted that General Motors India have launched the LPG version of its small car Spark in the country. Eventhough their parent group are going through bankrupt in the US, General Motors India are trying to achieve their goal of becoming a market leader in India. This new version of the Chevrolet Spark is priced at Rs 3,52,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Mitsubishi launched their new electric vehicle, i-MiEV

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is considered to be one of the notable car manufacturer's in the world today and they have now launched their new car i-MiEV, which is an electric vehicle. The company unveiled the i-MiEV at its headquarters in Tokyo.

The major feature that relates with this new car i-MiEV is that it can powered solely by electricity, and can be recharged from a regular home socket. The four-seater vehicle can run up to 160 kilometres (100 miles) after charging seven hours at 200 volts. The other notable thing is that it is a zero-emission vehicle and it does not rely on oil, which is different from hybrid cars.

The major letdown with this new car is that it is twice as expensive as popular hybrid cars by rivals Toyota and Honda. Mitsubishi's i-MiEV costs 4.59 million yen ($47,560), more than twice as much as Toyota's new Prius, which is just over 2 million yen, or Honda's Insight, which starts at 1.89 million yen, the cheapest hybrid on the market. But the company is planning to cut the price below 2 million yen, as the production increases.

Sales of this new car to individual consumers in Japan will begin in April 2010. This new product from Mitsubishi will also be available in United States, China, Britian and other European countries.
